SERVPRO of Tarpon Can Help You with Restoration and Rebuilding

Restoring a home after fire damage is also a perfect opportunity to schedule a kitchen renovation.

The Team That Can Help You Rebuild in Tarpon

Restoring a home after fire damage is also a perfect opportunity to schedule a kitchen renovation. SERVPRO of Tarpon restoration teams can work with homeowners to replace damaged appliances with the latest model or help rebuild and redesign a kitchen from the floor up.

In addition to handling water, storm and fire damage, our technicians are trained to replace walls, paint, install tile, and much more.

SERVPRO technicians can move and reset a kitchen island to a new position in the kitchen. They can also replace a damaged countertop with a new one and reface kitchen cabinets just as easily. Once the new cabinets and countertops are in place, the team leader then installs the new tile around them to match the color and design of the new appliances.

If there are no load-bearing walls involved, our restoration teams can enlarge a kitchen. They start the process by tearing the drywall off the frame and dispose of it. Even if the panels are not fire damaged, they are fragile, and it is cheaper to replace them than to spend the extra labor hours attempting to remove them for reuse.

Next, the teams detach the wall framing from the floor and ceiling. If there are load-bearing walls, or other support beams and structures involved, our team leader recommends the homeowner bring in a general contractor. Once our specialists install the new framing, they hang drywall on it and then either paint or attach paneling to meet the owner’s demands.

Finally, our teams install the new floors to finish off the look of the renovated kitchen. Each of our technicians on this task is thoroughly trained to lay on the new floor to prevent air pockets and lumps in the adhesive we use to attach it to the concrete floor.

A fire can leave any homeowner at a loss for direction. The goal of SERVPRO of Tarpon is to help every homeowner return to a safe, clean home that is hopefully better than it was before the disaster. Call us today at (727) 934-5555 to find out what we can do for you.

Fire Prevention and Restoration in Tarpon

Smoke detectors should be installed on every floor of your home and close to any bedrooms.

Residential fires are not something most people really think about on a daily basis. Consider that in just two short minutes, a fire can become life-threatening. In five minutes, an entire home can be engulfed in flames. Staying safe from fires at home begins with you.

Fire prevention begins with properly installing smoke detectors throughout your home. Smoke detectors should be installed on every floor of your home and close to any bedrooms. To make sure that the detectors are in working order, you should test them once a month. Batteries in smoke detectors should be replaced once a year. 3 out of 5 deaths as a result of home fires occur in homes that do not have working smoke alarms installed.

Once you've got the smoke detectors installed, it's time to make sure that you have fire extinguishers readily available throughout your residence. These will come in handy should you experience a small fire.

Developing a plan for escape in advance will save you time which is critical during a fire.

What about after a fire occurs?

After any fire damage situation, your primary focus should be safety first:

Is it safe to stay in the house?

Electrical and "slip and fall" hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns.

Only do activities that are safe for you to perform.

Wet materials can be very heavy.

Cleaning and attempting to restore your home requires professional knowledge, equipment, and products. Past results demonstrate that DIY efforts fall short, result in greater personal losses, extend repair time and increase expenses.

SERVPRO of Tarpon is ready to help 24 hours a day. Trained, experienced specialists are available to restore your home or business. We are locally owned and operated, we are able to respond quicker with the right resources, which is extremely important. A fast response lessens the damage, limits further damage, and reduces the restoration cost.

SERVPRO of Tarpon is an IICRC firm. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) creates the standards for the restoration industry and provides training and certification to restoration companies. IICRC standards take years to develop and require the coordination of experts in the field: manufacturers, industry organizations, insurance professionals, training schools, contractors, and public health professionals.

What Would You Guess Is the Single Most Common Disaster in The US?

1/3/2022 (Permalink)

If you were asked to name the most common disaster across the nation, what would you guess?

The American Red Cross has the answer, and most of you probably didn't get it. Eighty percent of Americans don’t realize that home fires are the single most common disaster across the nation.

That's right, house fires. Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Two out of three cooking fires start with the range or stove, this is according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Escaping a house fire is no guessing game. Does your family have a plan? Only 26 percent of families have actually developed and practiced a home fire escape plan.

Here are a few tips to help you and your family develop a two-minute escape plan.

If a fire starts, you may have less than two minutes to get to safety. Time your fire drills and find out, what’s your escape time?

Smoke is dangerous. Get low and go!

Everyone in your household should know two
ways to escape from each room in your home.

Get out and stay out. Never go back inside for
people, pets or things.

Decide where to meet once you get outside.

If you do experience a house fire, it's going to have a remediation plan after the first responders have done their job.

Leading Causes Of Fires In The Home

If you do have fire damage call the experts at SERVPRO of Tarpon.

Fires started by smoking materials have been the leading cause or one of the leading causes of home fire fatalities for decades. This was still true for the 2015–2019 period, during which an estimated average of 16,300 such fires caused an average of 600 deaths; 1,030 injuries; and $511 million in direct property damage annually. This is according to research presented by The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The (NFPA) report indicates heating equipment was the second leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries and the third leading cause of home fire deaths and direct property damage from 2015 to 2019.

An average of 45,800 such fires caused 480 deaths; 1,350 injuries; and $1.0 billion in direct property damage per year.

Heating equipment was the leading cause of fire deaths in one- or two-family homes. Although space heaters, including portable heaters and those that are permanently installed, were involved in only 4 percent of the total home fires.

If You Had A Fire In Your Home, How Long Would It Take You To Escape?

If you have questions about fire damage or restoration give us a call SERVPRO of Tarpon at (727) 934-5555.

Smoke detectors in your home and business are important. According to the National Fire Protection Association, occupants have less than three minutes to escape a fire.

Without early warning, that's not a lot of time.

The NFPA provides the following tips regarding smoke detectors:

Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.

A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Install alarms in the basement. Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.

Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
It is best to use interconnected smoke alarms. When one smoke alarm sounds they all sound.

Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.

Today’s smoke alarms will be more technologically advanced to respond to a multitude of fire conditions, yet mitigate false alarms.

A smoke alarm should be on the ceiling or high on a wall. Keep smoke alarms away from the kitchen to reduce false alarms. They should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) from the stove.

People who are hard-of-hearing or deaf can use special alarms. These alarms have strobe lights and bed shakers.

Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.

Smoke alarms are an important part of a home fire escape plan.

Preventing Fires In Tarpon Springs

8/10/2021 (Permalink)

An accumulation of lint can lead to a dangerous situation.

According to the National Fire Protection Agency, NFPA, U.S fire departments responded to nearly 16,000 home fires involving clothes dryers or washing machines over a four-year period. These fires resulted in $238 million in property damage. The majority of these fires come from home clothes dryers.

One-third of clothes dryers related fires are caused by an accumulation of lint, which means that not cleaning out your dryer vent can set you up for a dangerous situation.

Here are 4 simple tips that and ensure safety in the laundry room.

CLEAN THE LINT FILTER AFTER EVERY LOAD- not only will this help prevent a fire, but your clothes will dry faster.

REPLACE ACCORDION-STYLE DUCTS-If you see a plastic or foil accordion-style duct connecting your appliance to the vent, it’s a good idea to replace it with a rigid metal duct that won't sag and collect lint.

CLEAN THE DRYER DUCT ANNUALLY- (at least)-Disconnect the duct from the dryer, and vacuum both the dryer and the duct—as much as you can access, then reassemble, return dryer to original spot and reconnect power.

HANDLE CHEMICAL STAINS WITH CARE-Clothes stained with gas, cooking oil, cleaning agents, or other flammable chemicals or substances need special care. It's recommended to wash such stained clothing more than once to minimize volatile chemicals, then hang to dry. If you must use a dryer, use the lowest heat setting and a drying cycle that concludes with a cool-down period.

IMPORTANT: In the event that a fire does start, keep the dryer door closed to limit its oxygen supply—a fire needs oxygen to keep it going.
Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions. We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage. We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

Cleaning Up Fire Damage Is About Making Good Decisions

Smoke and Soot Damage Can Cause a Pervasive Odor in Your Tarpon Home.

House Fire Damage, SERVPRO of Tarpon Is Ready To Help

After you have had a fire in your home, there are several steps SERVPRO of Tarpon can take to restore your investment. When we first arrive at your residence after an emergency call, we begin inspecting your entire property for damage. During the first contact with you, we figure out the severity of the damage. We will provide an initial work scope and estimate for you and your insurance adjuster.

During the initial inspection, our SERVPRO of Tarpon estimators will determine which items can be saved. We have to determine how much the items will cost to replace and how expensive it will be to repair. If the costs involved in cleaning or refinishing the item are cheaper than paying to replace it, we mark it on the estimate as something we can save. If repairing the building materials or contents is more expensive than replacing it, then we remove the items.

When dealing with burnt or residue-coated objects, our SERVPRO of Tarpon technicians know that their options are to clean, resurface, or replace the items. Cleaning is the least expensive and quickest restoration option, the object when cleaning is to remove all of the soot residues that exist. Our primary goal is to preserve fabrics or surfaces and return them to their preloss state.

Resurfacing items inside your home is more expensive than cleaning, and it takes more time. Resurfacing can include the refinishing of wood furniture, the re-upholstering of furniture, and possibly the painting of walls and ceilings.

Replacing is the most expensive option and only gets used when the other two methods are either not feasible or not cost-effective. If you have fire damage in your home, call SERVPRO of Tarpon at (727) 934-5555.

Making The Right Call After Commercial Fire Damage

Fire destroys while it burns, rendering almost everything it touches a charred, useless mess. While preventing a fire in the first place is always better, being able to quickly recover after one can help keep your custom sewing shop from failing.
Trinity business owners know commercial fire damage can cause more than the destruction of their inventory.

When businesses engage in custom-made work such as boat cushions, curtains, and other one-of-a-kind goods, fires can interfere with your normal business operations. Most customers waiting on their purchases prefer quick production, but often understand that calamities hinder the process.

The ability to restore normal operations quickly shows your dedication to your customers' needs, building trust and repeat business. SERVPRO knows that each company in our area is an important part of the local economy and we remain dedicated to helping minimize the length of time your business remains unproductive.

The different types of fabrics and materials used in the making of textile-based goods mean they burn differently. Some simply melt because of their high content of synthetics. While often used because of their waterproof qualities, the same qualities can make them one of the first to go when a fire occurs. Smoke can damage more hardy fabric types, but SERVPRO's ability to restore these by removing the microscopic soot particles means less inventory requires replacement.

Machines used for grommet placement, sewing heavy canvas, and other equipment can be cleaned and made free of soot. New work should wait until afterward to protect both machinery from abnormal wear and tear and fabric from becoming stained from soot deposits.
We train our employees according to international standards, resulting in technicians holding certificates in Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT) and Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS). We clean up the fire damage, and then we ensure your business is dry, too. Both are required to get you back on your feet and fulfilling customers' orders.

Areas on walls and ceilings that have structural deficits from the fire can become like new through restoration. Carpeting, however, is often largely destroyed by the combination of heat, fire, smoke and soot, and water from firefighting. Other floor types may suffer less damage, but each fire is different from the next. Inspecting and assessing to see the extent of the damage reveals much information specific to that fire.

Always ready to help the local businesses recover from even the worst disasters, SERVPRO of Tarpon can quickly remediate and mitigate both vast and small disasters. Call us at (727) 934-5555 so we can help restore your business, so it is “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO of Tarpon Knows How To Help You Recover From A Fire

SERVPRO of Tarpon (727) 934-5555 is always ready to help. Trained, certified technicians are available to respond to your fire damage 24/7.

When the immediate danger from a residential fire has passed, the cleanup process can begin. The common misconception is that most damage comes from the flames and high temperatures. In reality, bigger risks come from their by-products; soot, smoke, and ash. These three substances are a major problem for soft furnishings because porous materials take on odors and residues more easily. It is why, when dealing with fire damage in homes, SERVPRO of Tarpon prioritizes the cleaning of sofas, carpets, and other soft items.
SERVPRO of Tarpon (727) 934-5555 is always ready to help. Trained, certified technicians are available to respond to your fire damage 24/7.
Here are some ways fire damage technicians rescue and restore soft furnishings. Dry Cleaning The most common form of dry cleaning is suction. Specialized vacuum devices are carefully passed over affected surfaces to pick up fine layers of soot and debris. Usually, it is a preparatory technique applied before more intensive procedures, because it is not efficient for very large items. Dry cleaning is most useful for tackling powdery soot and ash. Wet Cleaning SERVPRO only uses saturation techniques on furniture if they are already wet (for example, from fire extinguishing efforts). Too much moisture can permanently damage some fabrics, so it is crucial to match the cleaning strategy to the needs of the item. For instance, jet washing equipment is a good way to clean heavily soiled walls, but it is not suitable for sofas, carpets, or curtains. Spray and Wipe A more appropriate form of wet cleaning is the spray and wipe routine. It involves only small amounts of water and liquid detergents. The technicians apply water and cleaning products to the heavily stained patches. Care is always needed when applying manual treatments, as wet soot can smear if handled incorrectly. Foam Cleaning This propensity for smearing and moving further into the fabric when touched is one of the reasons why foam cleaning is so helpful. It requires no water, so the furniture is not at risk of moisture damage. Plus, the foam is applied and then left to set. It works deep into the fabric and lifts grime and dirt to the surface, where it gets wiped away. SERVPRO often uses this technique for cleaning mattresses, because the risk of permanent staining is high. You can find out more about the cleaning methods used at SERVPRO of Tarpon by getting in touch with our expert team. They provide a local service and are ideally placed to assist customers in the area. Call us 24/7 on (727) 934-5555.

However, there are ways to ensure that you can avoid having to go through the trauma of damage caused by fire. Let's take a moment to discuss three essential steps.

Take Precautions. Every year nearly 2,000 people lose their lives in a fire. You should make sure the correct installation of your smoke alarms on each level of your house or condo. It is also recommended to test the smoke alarms every month. Make sure with doors closed that you can hear them. You should also change your alarm batteries twice a year. Many individuals are in the habit of replacing batteries when they alter the clocks for Daylight Saving Time.

Create a Sound Plan. All of your family should be aware of your emergency preparedness plan. Sketch out a quick drawing of your floor plan and then take the time to identify at least two exits in each and every room just in case you need to make a quick escape. Go over your plan together and identify meeting places outside of the building, such as the neighbor’s driveway.

Hold fire drills and start practicing your escape from the house or condo in Tarpon. It is best to do this at least twice a year. Involving your children in these drills is critical, but remember that additional planning is needed when infants or tiny children are involved. Older children need to be taught to stay very low, feel the doors for heat before they try to open them, and never return to the building once they are out. Restrict fire damage to the building, not your family.

Focus On Prevention. There is a genuine possibility that you have already been schooled on ways to fireproof your property, but there are a few tips that you can use to prevent fires during special occasions such as the holidays. These times can be pretty hectic time, so it can be very easy to forget even the simplest things.

For instance, you should always remember to check the water that is standing beneath your Christmas tree. If you use a tree that is fresh-cut, then it has been in the process of drying out for a very long time. Moreover, this can be an extreme fire hazard. Watering it ensures that it retains moisture and help delay the messy needle droppings. SERVPRO of Tarpon suggest that you use LED lights for decorating the tree, less heat and help eliminate a potential fire leading to water damage.

If you want to remain safe all throughout the year and protect your family and property, then it essential that you take the necessary steps. Fire, Odors, Water All Require Recovery Techniques for Hotel Owners and Guests--Call SERVPRO

A fire can affect your hotel in Innisbrook for many different reasons. These causes can range from small appliances that malfunction to cigarette smoking, or even arson. Fire departments often find many other reasons, as well, behind a destructive fire's occurrence. We have the skills and training to effectively mitigate most of the problems involved and make your hotel a safe location once again, “Like it never even happened.”

We are always ready to provide effective assistance to hotel owners in the Innisbrook area when fire damage becomes an issue. Fire leaves any building with serious and complex issues that require professional mitigation to restore safe conditions to the area and prevent further damage. Unoccupied rooms do not help the bottom line.

The visual damage left behind by a fire includes charred materials, which SERVPRO technicians remove and dispose of, and soot-covered wall and ceilings, particularly above doorways. We clean these locations and remove any soot before it can harden and become more difficult to remove. Other aspects of fire damage to your hotel also require professional mitigation.

Damage from water used in putting out the fire can spread throughout your hotel and into other areas, causing harm to structures and the belongings of your guests. Sprinkler systems often drench hallways with large volumes of water creating hazardous conditions. Walls and other porous materials can begin deteriorating, and mold and mildew can also begin growing. Bedding and other furnishings in rooms and suites can harbor these and other microorganisms, possibly creating uncomfortable situations for overnight patrons. We bring in highly effective machinery that steadily reduces the amount of water vapor in the air until it reaches normal ranges again. Where porous materials retain water, we use other methods to extract this moisture in similarly effective ways.

Odors can also cause a situation involving guests. SERVPRO technicians expertly handle hidden odor-producing soot with different odor-controlling techniques. Ozone and hydroxyl gases both eliminate much of the problem, and we know thermal fogging also provides striking and noticeable relief. Odors form at the molecular level, and these techniques resolve the problem by bonding neutralizing chemical agents to odor-producing ones.
